On October 27, 2021 A couple of nursing students from Spring Hill College presented a lecture about how much of a problem childhood obesity is and how it can be prevented. The lecture started out with a TedTalk by Jamie Oliver, a man trying to raise awareness about the obesity rates in America, focusing most on the number of obese children in the US. After the video finished, the nurses finished their presentation. Some things I learned from their lecture is that more Hispanic children are obese than any other race, obesity prevalence was 18.9% among children and adolescent between age 2-19, and that children who are obese during their childhood are more likely to become obese adults. This lecture made me more self aware to how much obesity affects American citizens, especially children.
