Conversations That Count!

On November 7, 2022, Mrs. JB, a member of the Drug Education Council, came and spoke to our class to spread awareness about drugs and the effect they have on the adolescent brain. She explains that "Knowledge is power," and Delaying use can prevent addiction.

Many people don't acknowledge alcohol as a drug, but it is the leading most lethal drug in recreational activities such as operation vehicles.

Marijuana can interfere with attention, motivation, memory and learning. The high levels of THC can cause Marijuana to become addictive and difficult to quit. It can also increase mental health issues.

E-Cigarettes were created in 2003 in as sensation devices in order to help people to quit smoking, and they rushed to the shelves before getting any FDA regulations. 1 juul pod is the equivalent to 20-30 cigarettes. They can cause popcorn lung as well as a decay of teeth. The lithium battery can explode causing chemical burns and scaring.

Prescription Drugs hold an extreme responsibility to uphold the correct dosage. Opioid overdoses can come from oral surgeries or orthopedic surgeries are can lead to addiction or death. Over the counter medicines as well as prescribed medicines can be safely disposed of by taking them to a local sheriff's office or drug store.

Mrs. JB's extremely eye-opening talk was especially important to us as the next generation of addicts and advocators for drug issues. Her career is often overlooked but essential the solving this developing issue
