On Tuesday, April 26, 2020, Officer Mixon, a policeman from our local department came and spoke to our class about crash investigations and following the physical evidence. Before showing our class some real scene pictures of automobile crashes in our area, he first explained the different types of evidence. These evidence types consisting of roadway evidence, damage to vehicles, injuries to pedestrians or people in the vehicle, paint, fiber, and rubber transfers to objects, and toxicology, autopsy, and Event Dada Recorder Reports.
Officer Mixon then began to show us photos taken at the scene of these crashes, most were very graphic but would explain how the vehicle crash occurred or any evidence found. It was really interesting to me to see these crash photos being taken on roads that I normally drive on every single day. He also stressed the importance of seatbelts and how in some automobiles today, the airbags will not deploy without the seatbelt sensor being on. He explained that some of the victims would still be alive if they had been wearing a seatbelt. Although they leave nasty bruises and marks after impact, that is preferred over a tragic possible preventable death.
