On December 1, 2022, Mrs. Elizabeth Boone and her assistant Rachel from a local physical therapy group came and spoke to our class about the role physical therapy plays in Connor's recovery or other athletes that suffer from a tib/fib fracture.
The goal of physical therapy in Connor's case is to get him back to walking and to gain strength. the first thing Mrs. Boone always does compares the good leg to the injured leg, and places her hand above the fracture instead of the ankle. She then looks at the wound and fixator. It will usually be swollen and red, but the most important thing to look for are blood clots.
Mrs. Boone then performed a Anterior Drawer Test for an ACL tear, due to her findings from her assessment of Connor he positively tested for an ACL tear. His treatment plan consisted of Electrical Stimulation, it is a neuromuscular stimulant that works the muscles to prevent atrophy. I tried this stimulation on my forearm and it was really cool to see how the machine can move my muscles without me doing anything, and how helpful it can be to those who cannot move their muscles themselves after injury or in recovery!
