On Tuesday, December 7, 2021, Dr. Warner came and lectured us about Drowning and Airway Intervention! He shared some statistics with us such as children under the age of 5, men, and non hispanic black people have the greatest risk of drowning. He also described the steps in a drowning rescue such as who to call, when to preform CPR, and certain scenarios of someone drowning from an unexpected seizure or un ability to swim. Some injuries that can be caused by drowning are hypothermia, seizures, and sudden cardiac arrest; and on average, 20% of drowning victims will have permanent brain damage. Dr. Warner then proceeded to demonstrate what the inside of his throat looked like with the machine he brought! This lecture had a lot of useful information, especially since we live near a lot of water!
